Now resident in Gloucestershire, Eddie is a director of the innovative and highly successful jazz and improvisation education company, Groove On.
Groove On was originally a project which supported children’s music making through the transition from junior to secondary school.
Groove On continues to reach thousands of children in Gloucestershire schools.
From 1997 – 2008 Impro Integrated Music Projects, a company led by Eddie and his partner Elaine Furness, designed and ran major education and community projects in London and nationally with funding from Arts Council GB, Youth Music, Gulbenkian Foundation and other bodies. “Developing Musical Communities” was a 3 year project in Greenwich and Lewisham; “People Symphony” involved 15 schools and community groups from across London, and “Groove On” was a KS2-3 transition project in Enfield. Impro also worked with World Music group Akasae, Django Bates’ Delightful Precipice and the Eddie Parker Group and designed and led training courses for teachers and musicians. Impro led Brecon Jazz Festival’s Education and Outreach project for 3 years.
People Symphony was a major education and performance project which ran in four London boroughs for one year (2001-2), funded by Youth Music. Eddie was musical director of a team of around thirty musicians drawn from a variety of musical traditions ranging from jazz, rock and pop to African, Brazilian, Turkish and Indian music. Participants of all ages, abilities and disabilities worked alongside these musicians for a year, with regular public performances and training.
